Etching needles
 - Etching needles are used for engraving images and inscriptions on stone, glass, metal and other hard materials.

- The needle tip is made of natural or synthetic diamond. Crystal size 0.08 .. 0.12 carats.

- Service life of a needle when working on granite is from 15 images measuring 30x40cm.

- Needles can be grined at least four times on
SAUNO grinding machines.
Milling cutters for inscriptions on hard stone - granite, gabbro, porcelain stoneware

The sharpening angle is from 90 to 120 degrees, the seat diameter is 8mm.

One cutter cuts out 15 or more inscriptions of 40..50 characters each on granite.

Worn cutters can be re-sharpened on our grinding machine up to 4 times to obtain a cutting depth of at least 2 mm.

Letters made on granite with a SAUNO milling cutter have clear contours and sharp serifs.

d - diameter of the landing part (3, 6, 8 mm for standard collets);

L - shank length (30-150 mm);

L1 - length of the working part (approximately 10 mm);

a - cone angle (60, 90, 120 degrees);

d1 - diameter of the cutting part (3, 5, 6, 8, 10mm);

d2 - tip rounding diameter (3, 6, 8mm);

R - radius of rounding of the top of the cone (0.5-1.5 mm).

Milling time and resource of stone cutters

The time it takes to mill a bas-relief depends on the complexity of the small parts.

Milling small, complex parts requires a smaller diameter milling cutter that cuts slower.

Therefore, milling a large and small bas-relief may require the same amount of time.

73.jpg
For example, the time for milling a bas-relief with dimensions of 30x40cm and a depth of 3.5cm, shown in the figure, was:

- on granite 9 hours;
- on marble 5 hours.

To mill this bas-relief, a set of two cutters was used.
The first cutter is an end mill d1=10mm for fast roughing.
The second cutter is a conical spherical cutter with a rounding radius R=1.5mm for finishing.
One set of cutters makes 30 or more such bas-reliefs on granite or 100 or more on marble.

The time for milling an inscription consisting of 40..50 characters with a height of 30..40mm and a depth of 3mm is:

- on granite 20..30 minutes;
- on marble 15..20 minutes.

The service life of a solid diamond cutter for granite is more than 60 inscriptions, for marble - more than 300 inscriptions.
The service life of a milling cutter with multi-layer diamond coating on marble is about 50 inscriptions.
